Ms Samantha Graham-Maré was appointed as Deputy Minister of Electricity and Energy from 3 July 2024. 

She has been a Member of Parliament since 2019. Her dedication to public service and her commitment to addressing the needs of her constituents have been evident throughout her tenure.

Ms Graham-Maré’s political journey began at the local level, where she served as the DA Caucus Leader for the Dr Beyers Naudé Local Municipality. Her leadership skills were further recognised when she became a Member of the Executive Committee in the same municipality. From 2014 to 2016, she also held the position of Constituency Chairperson for the Dr Beyers Naudé Local Municipality, demonstrating her ability to connect with and represent her community effectively. She also served as a Councillor Delegate to the Eastern Cape Provincial Council, contributing her insights and experience to provincial governance.

She matriculated from the Rhenish Girls' High School in Stellenbosch in 1986 and pursuing a Bachelor of Laws degree through the University of South Africa, reflecting her commitment to continuous learning and her dedication to enhancing her legal expertise.

Outside of her political career, Ms Graham-Maré indulges in various interests to enrich her life such as playing squash, exploring culinary arts, reading and listening to music. Family and animals hold a special place in her heart, and she is deeply involved in community issues, always striving to make a positive impact.

Ms Graham-Maré entered politics with a clear mission; to be a voice for those who could not speak for themselves. Her election to Parliament have her a broader and more influential platform to campaign for the marginalised, particularly those affected by poverty, a lack of education and limited opportunities. She considers it a tremendous honour and responsibility to serve in this capacity, and she remains committed to making her constituents proud through her work and dedication.
